The liver plays a crucial role in the metabolism of protein and the detoxification of the associated breakdown products. With impaired liver function, there is an accumulation of ammonia in the bloodstream, which can transition from the blood into the nervous tissue at a certain concentration. To counteract this main problem for liver patients, we have designed a special formulation. The focus was primarily on the protein source, as it was necessary to use a very high quality of meat on one hand and to determine the amount on the other hand, so that it does not exceed the required intake. With the help of muscle meat, we have thus created a highly digestible protein that is within the required norms, in order to avoid unnecessary ammonia formation. Another aspect is the preservation of body mass, which is ensured by a correspondingly high proportion of carbohydrates and fats. The product also features sufficient energy supply with a value of 0.57 MJ/100g, as the dog should maintain its body mass. The wet food also has a reduced copper content, as a too high dosage is stored in the liver cells. In contrast, the vitamin E content is above average, as this is an important component for a healthy supply for liver-ill patients.
