The liver plays a crucial role in the metabolism of protein and the detoxification of the associated breakdown products. With impaired liver function, there is an accumulation of ammonia in the bloodstream, which can cross into the nervous tissue at a certain concentration. Since ammonia is a potent neurotoxin, we have also developed suitable treats as a supplement to a complete feed for the liver diet. In the formulation, we particularly focused on keeping the quality of the proteins in the form of muscle meat as high as possible, while also adjusting the recipe to keep the protein content low. The product is also characterized by an adequate energy supply with a value of 1.48 MJ/100g, as the dog should maintain its body mass. Additionally, we include vitamin E in the formulation, as it is an important component for the healthy care of liver-diseased patients.
