This connection was invented in the 1940s to connect turntables to amplifiers. Today it is used in audio and video equipment. Each connector is mono with the ground on the outside which means it is an unbalanced connection. The big Jack is the 6.3 mm Jack (head diameter in mm). There are two types of it on the market TS (mono jack) and TRS (stereo jack).
