From the awe-inspiring glaciers to the expansive frozen vistas stretching endlessly, ice holds a crucial place in the world's ecosystems, akin to water, air, and forests. Its existence and essential role on Earth face growing risks due to global warming and increasing population pressures. This very concern has motivated French photographer Laurent Baheux to embark on his project, Ice is Black. Baheux's stunning black-and-white photography showcases some of the planet's most mesmerizing icy landscapes and the intriguing wildlife that inhabit these regions. The images transport viewers to a realm seemingly untouched by time, bringing them face-to-face with animals and vistas from remote areas such as Norway, Iceland, and Canada. In Baheux's photographs, polar bears with their young, playful foxes in the snow, and seals navigating frigid waters come to life. While these pictures capture breathtaking beauty, they also serve as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to safeguard these remarkable frozen domains and the species that call them home.
