An extraordinary example is Ivaylo, a Bulgarian swineherd who, within a year, managed to repel the Mongols, kill the Tsar, and wed his widow. Some insurrections, however, have less ambitious goals: Spartacus primarily wished to return home to his mother. Regardless of their aims, we can glean valuable insights from past revolutionaries, like the two suffragists who attempted to deliver themselves to the prime minister via Royal Mail as a form of protest. (An ingenious plan, although Downing Street refused the delivery.) From humble peasants to defiant slaves, steadfast martyrs to rebellious mutineers, the spirit of revolt is honored through the unwavering courage of those who dared to defy the established order.
