Just days before Shadow is set to be freed from prison, tragedy strikes as his wife, Laura, perishes in a puzzling car accident. Overwhelmed with grief, Shadow travels back home. During his flight, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, who introduces himself as a displaced deity from a far-off conflict and claims the title of the king of America. Together, they set out on an extraordinary adventure through the core of the United States, as an ominous and otherworldly storm looms on the horizon, threatening to unleash its fury.
